On February 10, 2017, on celebrating the Lunar New Year 2017, the Intellectual Women’s Association of Ho Chi Minh City (IWAH) organized a spring meeting to review the activities implemented in 2016.

In 2016, 61 new members were enrolled in IWAH, increasing the total number of members to 175. IWAH has so far established fifteen divisions, organized six seminars and workshops including three experience-sharing workshops on gender equality in politics, science and business administration.

IWAH organized the final defense presentation of a research project entitled "Competencies in the Profession and in Management of Women Intellectuals Aged 56 – 60 in Ho Chi Minh City" performed by members of the Hoa Sen University Division; this research was greatly valued by the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City. IWAH also conducted fund-raising activities and received a sum of VND 1.2 billion to support 1,700 teachers and poor people; 54 poor and excellent female students; as well as other people and soldiers living in the islands of the East Sea and people who were victims of storms and flood.

In 2016, almost all IWAH divisions organized activities for their members in order to develop their competencies such as: training workshops on legal issues advising skills for workers of companies and industrial parks as well as prisoners in detention; training workshops for primary school students on how to prevent and combat sexual harassment; and training courses for women candidates to run for People’s Councils of all levels in HCMC.

During 2017 IWAH will implement several activities including: submitting a research plan entitled “The roles of Women Intellectuals in Ho Chi Minh City during the renovation and globalization period” and establishing training groups in order to participate in communication activities to raise the community’s awareness, life skills, work performing skills, safe mushroom growing and legal issues. On this occasion a law-consulting center will also be established.

At the ceremony, IWAH presented awards to six IWAH divisions and eighteen IWAH members who had fruitfully contributed to IWAH’s activities in 2016; this included the Hoa Sen University Division and Ms. Thai Thi Ngoc Du, the Former Director of Gender and Society Research Center.
